If Saturday's Division 1 District tournament goes as well as Tuesday's pre-District game against Livonia Churchill, Plymouth's softball team will be having quite a post-District celebration sometime Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats were hitting on all cylinders Tuesday as they routed Livonia Churchill, 16-1, in a five-inning, mercy rule-shortened contest at Salem. Plymouth will take an 18-14-1 record into Saturday's noon semifinal showdown against PCEP neighbor Canton.
The other semifinal match-up, which is set to start at 10 a.m., will pit Salem against Livonia Stevenson. The championship tilt is set for approximately 2:30 p.m.
"It was nice to see the players come together as a team today," said Plymouth coach Val Canfield. "Hopefully, we can carry over the momentum we got from this game over to Saturday.
The Chargers, who dropped an 11-1 decision to the Wildcats earlier this month, finished 12-22.
Plymouth led just 2-1 after two innings before busting loose for two runs in the third and fourth innings and 10 in the fifth.
The winners outhit the Chargers, 16-2.
Senior Meghan Patterson earned the mound victory, tossing a complete game with three strikeouts and one walk.
Amanda Burnard led the Plymouth offensive onslaught with four hits and two RBI. Also shining at the plate were Erin Rodes (3-for-5, two RBI), Amy Bondy (2-for-4, two RBI) and Stacey Klonowski (3-for-4, three RBI).
