The third time proved to be the charm for Plymouth's softball team in its Division 1 District semifinal against Canton Saturday morning at Salem.
After dropping a pair of regular-season contests to the Chiefs, the Wildcats prevailed, 5-0, behind the four-hit pitching of senior right-hander Meghan Patterson.
Offensively, six different players registered one hit a piece for the winners.
The biggest hits were two-run singles off the bats of Stacey Klonowski in the third and Jill Brennan in the sixth.
Canton senior pitcher Hilary Payne nearly escaped a bases-loaded jam in the third when Plymouth's Gina Giordano led off with a double and advanced to third on a one-out passed ball. Patterson then walked and Erin Rodes reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. However, Amy Bondy hit a ground ball to Payne, who fired home to get the force at the plate.
Klonowski then delivered her two-run single before Amanda Burnard followed with an RBI single.
Patterson yielded just four hits - two to Miranda Rysdorp and one each to Payne and Shelby Anthony - without giving up a walk. She struck out five Chiefs.
